Learn the position of your wheels

A good way to avoid potholes or any object in the road is to know where your wheels are. Practice makes perfect and you can do this with an empty plastic bottle. Find an empty plastic bottle, step on it with your foot and put it on the road or parking lot. Roll your windows down so you can hear the crunch of the bottle. Then practice trying to avoid the bottle and you will become more aware of your tire positions.

Avoid distractions

We all know to stay off our phones but there are other factors that can be distracting to new drivers. Loud music or using the Bluetooth feature for phone calls can still be distracting. Wait until you are comfortable driving before you add anything else. You will need to think clearly and assess the road as you drive.

Watch taller vehicles in front of you

You still need to pay attention to the vehicles directly in front of you but taller vehicles further up can give you a better idea of whether or not you should be changing lanes or there are hazards further up. This will give you time to merge over in another lane or slow down.
